A Little More About Gavin
I was raised in a musical family; my mom played piano, her dad played guitar and fiddle, my dad sang along with mom’s piano playing. They only played at home. My oldest brother took up playing drums as a teenager and went on to play in bands from the early seventies to today. I started on piano at six years old till around eighteen, when life took me on other paths. I started playing guitar in the late eighties to the present. Though I loved to listen to Rock and Prog Rock, what stood out for me was listening to live recordings of James Taylor, Paul Simon, Stephen Stills, Joni Mitchell, and others with just an acoustic guitar and vocals and having the audience’s wrap attention. It took real artistry to achieve that kind of attention. That’s what drove me to be not just a guitar player, but an artist. Whether it’s performing my originals at a songwriters showcase, or playing instrumental background music, it’s all music. It’s the reason I’m here. And I’m grateful for it.
Peace
